Rev. Rex S. Wignall - Pastor

Rev. Rex S. Wignall has been Pastor of Sun City United Methodist Church since July 1, 2005.

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY BY PASTOR WIGNALL

"I was born in Whittier, California on May 19, 1946. I have one sister, Sally Wignall Dix who currently lives in Dallas, TX. My parents were both teachers. My father, Rex. W. Wignall was a plant pathologist who taught agriculture at Chaffey College and later became the Director of Chaffey College just before his death in 1967. My mother Ruby Sanborn Wignall was a teacher and guidance counselor at Upland High School.“

"My early years of life were in Claremont where I attended Sycamore Elementary School. I attended Jr. High School and Sr. High School in Upland, CA. where I was active in the choir and ran track. My first interest in public speaking came during High School. During those years my family attended the First Presbyterian Church of Upland, which had a strong and active youth fellowship. While a High School student I made a personal decision to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and served as president of the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship during my senior year. I played football four years, but running was my sports passion. I attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. My academic course of study was history, philosophy, and religion; it was the Rev. Dr. George Ball (a now-retired professor at Whitman) who encouraged me to listen prayerfully for a call from God into the ministry. After college, Dr. Ball urged me to try a year at Claremont School of Theology. At the School of Theology I was one of the first interns in Project Understanding, a research program on racism in the local church. Following Project Understanding, I took a position as director of Pomona Open Door, a community drop-in counseling center. The best thing to come out of my time at Open Door is that I met my future wife, Barbara. Barbara and I married in May of 1971.“

"Churches I have served include: Trinity UMC in Pomona, California Heights UMC in Long Beach, First UMC of Pasadena, Parker UMC in Parker, AZ, Chatsworth UMC, UMC of Vista, CA, Rialto UMC, Murrieta UMC, Perris Valley UMC. In January 1999, I began an  extension ministry as Chaplain at Valley Christian Home in Hemet, CA. In nearly six and one half years there, I provided a ministry of preaching and teaching, but more importantly, a pastoral ministry to persons in their last years and months of life. For the past five years, I have served as Pastor of Sun City UMC.My emphasis has been on preaching, teaching (3 Bible studies each week) and pastoral ministry. My wife Barbara and I have two daughters and four grandchildren."
